Spirit Rock Meditation Center is dedicated to the teachings of the Buddha as presented in the Vipassana tradition. The practice of mindful awareness, called Insight or Vipassana Meditation, is at the heart of all activities at Spirit Rock. As clarity develops, grasping, judgment and fear fall away. In seeing through the mind's conditioning, we can live more fully in the present moment, where we establish qualities such as compassion, equanimity, wisdom, and joy. The ultimate aim of the practice is the ending of suffering in the discovery of an unconditional and complete freedom.

Spirit Rock is located in the Northern California town of Woodacre, in western Marin county, less than an hour's drive north of San Francisco. The Center hosts a full program of ongoing classes and daylong retreats exploring the themes of meditation and its relation to life in modern society. In addition to classes and daylong retreats, residential facilities allow us to offer a schedule of longer retreats for the sustained practice of meditation on the land.

A collective of over fifteen teachers provides the spiritual guidance of the Center and leads the classes and retreats, which are available to both beginning and experienced students.
