Director for Programs (Associate Executive Director of Programs
This is a new 
position. This is a full-time, exempt position. Competitive salary commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits package including paid time for meditation retreats. Reports to the executive director.
Organizational
- Supervise the following staff members: Program Weaver, Volunteer Manager, Program Manager, Family Program Manager, Communications Manager, and Diversity Coordinator.
- Serve as an expert for the Spirit Rock community on Theravadan traditions, links to other dharma communities and networks, and the interface between Spirit Rock (or Theravada) and other organizations and traditions.
- Serve on the Spirit Rock Management Team with other directors and managers.
In collaboration with the Executive Director:
- Shape the implementation of Spirit Rock programs to complement other program offerings, to keep them in line with Spirit Rock's own traditions and values, and to enhance and support the role Spirit Rock has traditionally played in Buddhism in the West.
- Implement programs as envisioned by the Teachers Council and Board that serve as bridges between the various Buddhist traditions in America and the world.
- Develop, monitor, and implement the annual budget for Spirit Rock's program department.
- Serve as the chief staff executive in the absence of the Executive Director.
Program
- Serve on and/or staff program-related committees and subcommittees including the Program Committee, the Family Council, the Spiritual Emergence(y) Committee, the Diversity Council, and the Teachers Council.
- Responsible for all aspects of presentation of Spirit Rock programs with day-to-day implementation being handled by the Program Weaver, the Program Manager, and the Family Program Manager.
- In collaboration with the Program Weaver and Executive Director, identify and make recommendations for new programs or changes to existing programs to the Program Committee and Teacher's Council.
- Work with the Program Committee and Teachers Council to create and maintain a curriculum of practice and study for Spirit Rock yogis.
- Oversee the development of the annual schedule of programs at Spirit Rock.
- Support the Teachers Council in their development of a programmatic vision for Spirit Rock in collaboration with the Executive Director and Board of Directors, and implement and sustain that vision.

Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Qualifications
- Significant experience with the Buddhadharma and Vipassana tradition, its language and network of teachers and centers, both traditional and contemporary.
- Substantial meditation experience in a retreat center or monastic setting.
- Experience in the management of a complex nonprofit or religious organization, including an understanding of the nonprofit or religious organization environment and how that differs from for-profit organizations and cultures.
- Program management and development experience.
- Skill in working with a broad spectrum of teachers, board members, community members, and volunteers.
- Demonstrated supervisory, administrative and leadership skills. The ability to inspire others.
- Significant experience with budgeting.
- A positive attitude.
- A sincere interest in the exploration of bringing mindfulness to all activities of daily life.
Please note: This job is not appropriate for someone who is intending to become a Buddhist teacher in the Vipassana tradition. If that is your career path, please do not apply. Time constraints do not allow for extended retreat practice and dual relationships with Spirit Rock teachers will bring unnecessary complexity to the fulfillment of job responsibilities.
